London, being as big as it is, offers a great number of different experiences, depending on which part of it you visit. It is effectively lots of towns directly joined onto one another, with these being some of the highlights:
Camden – Even though it is not all that pretty, Camden Town is a place to where tourists flock. People like to go there to see its lively market and its large underground music scene. Each weekend, approximately 100,000 visitors go to the market to find objects that they would not otherwise be able to purchase in one shopping trip.
Covent Garden & The Strand – This town has many stores, hotels, and theaters. As such the Strand, a wide road that goes toward the City from Trafalgar Square is always packed full of visitors and automobiles. At one end of the Strand is Covent Garden, which is home to numerous bars, cafes, and entertainment such as mimes, dancers, and magicians, among others.
Chelsea – Fashionable shops, antique stores, and cute houses from the 18th and 19th centuries all come together to create an extremely popular town to visit. Even the most jaded of shoppers will be kept entertained for hours in the main shopping area of King’s Road. This area is also home to the Premier League football champions – Chelsea FC.
Kensington – The ideal place for shoppers and royal watchers, you will find lots of shops (selling everything from clothing to home-wares to antiques) and the gates of Kensington Palace. If you have ever wanted to see a member of the royal family, then this is as good a place as any. Even if you do not manage to see a royal, you will be certain to get lots of great photographs.
Oxford Circus & Piccadilly Circus – Millions of tourists visit these extremely famous areas every year. Piccadilly Circus is not a very clean place, and it is very crowded, but it is an area where people often meet one another because it is the middle part of London’s West End. If you’re looking to go to Oxford Street to visit the major shopping area in London, Oxford Circus is the ideal route to take.
Soho & Leicester Square – Action abounds here as there is a fabulous restaurant, bar and pub scene in colorful Soho and frequent UK movie premieres in Leicester Square which is conveniently situated right next door. Be sure to take your camera and autograph book along as there are often movie and TV stars who frequent these areas.
Westminster – You will find not only the famous Westminster Abbey, but also the impressive buildings of the UK government. Huge, stately structures are viewable from each corner of every road, and you will be amazed at the amount of history that you will see. Taking a stroll on the streets of Westminster is akin to going back to when the United Kingdom was at its glorious best.
