As the title states, how far ahead do you personally begin to start planning and booking your vacations? Do you book as early as a year ahead, or more like 6 months?

I’ll be goingto Europe for a few weeks and will only stay at each city for a few days. I’ll be travelling with a small group of 4 people staying at hostels and hotels. At home I spend about an hour each day running or swimming. If i go more than three days without any physical activity I start to get real antsy. How do you stay fit on vacations?

questioner asked:
The average cost of gasoline has gone up to $4.10 a gallon on street and the cost of rental cars, hotels, airline tickets, etc are going up faster than my salary increase. The result is something has to give and I have to cut back. So instead of one long summer vacation I am going on one short trip (long weekend).

I suspect other people are no longer able to afford the nice vacations they use to go on and the result is less money will be spent at hotels, amusement parks, museums, tourist attractions and airline.
Will the tourist economy crash?
